Loosely speaking, moments in mathematics refers to quantitative measure of a shape or shape of points. But what is "complex moments"? Another question is that why complex moments are interesting to represent 2D shape? Why MSER is described by complex moments? Why image normalization uses complex moments? What's the intuition?
What are moments?
[1] From mathematical point of view, moments are "projections" of a function onto a basis of polynomial (similarly, Fourier transform is s projection onto a basis of harmonic functions)
